At the beginning of the millennium the people of Leipzig had a dream - Olympia 2012.
Unfortunately, this dream was already over in 2004 and in the end London was awarded the 2012 Summer Games.
Planned in the course of the Olympic bid, however, the canoe park Markkleeberg was actually built and opened in April 2007. Since then the canoe park Markkleeberg is one of the most modern canoe slalom routes in Europe and a visitor magnet at Lake Markkleeberg.
National and international competitions have taken place and continue to take place here, and numerous teams from Germany and abroad regularly come to Markkleeberg Lake for training.
The canoe park Markkleeberg is not only interesting for professional athletes, but also for "normal" water rats.
Follow exciting competitions in canoe slalom, watch the pros train or just try it out for yourself.
For white-water rafting, anyone over the age of 12 can take to the water on an inflatable boat. Fun and action are guaranteed!
An absolute novelty is the "Surfspot Kanupark", which will also welcome surfers from the 2017 season. A standing wave allows bodyboarding and wave surfing and can be learned without any previous knowledge.
Further highlights are the specials POWER- and DUO-Rafting, Hydrospeed or Whitewater-Kayak, there is something for everyone. Take a look at the Calendar of Events.
The canoe park is located in the immediate vicinity of the Seepark Auenhain and can be easily reached on foot in 10 minutes. This may be one of the reasons why many athletes make their accommodation in our Seepark Auenhain. So it may well be that you will meet one or two world champions or Olympic champions with us.
