Zoo Leipzig - Zoo of the Future

A 15-minute walk from downtown Leipzig and you have arrived in one of Europe's most renowned zoological gardens.

If you would like to experience the stars from "Elegant, Tiger & Co" live and up close, then you should not miss a visit to the Leipzig Zoo.

The conversion into the zoo of the future began 20 years ago and many projects have already been realised. The once ubiquitous cages have almost completely disappeared from the scene. Today you can observe the animals almost like in the wild.

The elephant temple "Ganesha Mandir", the tigers - taiga, the Kiwara - savannah and the Pongoland should be mentioned here on behalf of others.

Pongoland - A (-) look into our past

Pongoland was developed in close cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (Website to Pongoland).

On the world's largest plant of its kind (30,000 square meters), the scientists are investigating the behaviour of apes (chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and orang-utans).

On five open-air facilities and the 3,250 square metre tropical hall you can observe the animals and look over the shoulders of the scientists while exploring our ancestors.

Tropical World Gondwanaland

In 2007 the ground-breaking ceremony took place for the latest project of the zoo of the future, the construction of the tropical adventure world Gondwanaland.

In Europe's largest tropical hall (16,000 square metres) you can enter the world of the ancient continent of Gondwana with its rich flora and fauna. Whether on foot, by boat or over suspension bridges between the treetops of the tropical forest, the Gondwanaland will take you back to the primeval times of our world.

You can buy tickets directly from us at the reception.

You can find out more on the website of the Zoo Leipzig.
